Cooperative societies will continue to thrive in Oyo ―Ajimobi

GOVERNOR Abiola Ajimobi of Oyo state has assured of the state government’s resolve to ensure that cooperatives societies in the state continue to thrive.

According to Ajimobi, well-managed cooperative societies were critical in creating employment and economic opportunities that would alleviate poverty, improving the standard of living of the people and in increasing the state’s Gross Domestic Product.

Ajimobi, represented by State Commissioner of Ministry of Trade, Industry, Investment and Cooperatives, Princess Taibat Adeyemi-Agaba, made these remarks at the inauguration of the ultra-modern bakery project of the University College Hospital (Staff) Favour Cooperative Investment and Credit Society (CICS), held at UCH, Ibadan.

While lauding the initiative by CICS and UCH Cooperative Investment, he charged cooperatives society to continue to add value to the society by carrying out similar developmental projects.

In his remarks, the Chief Medical Director, Professor Temitope Alonge said that besides the project adding value to the lives of the people, it will also create job opportunities for many people on the production and supply chains.

He pointed out that the bakery would produce various loafs of bread, including special ones for persons suffering from diabetes mellitus and couples battling with fertility challenges.

He consequently averred that it was high time cooperative societies invested in similar projects that add value to lives and welfare of their members and the people at large.

Earlier in his remarks, President of the UCH (Staff) Favour CICS Ltd, Mr Busayo Oladejo said the society only keyed into the call by the Chief Medical Director on the need for cooperative societies to diversify from credit facilitating programmes to other investment initiatives.
