Leadership crisis has engulfed Bauchi State Chapter of the All Progressive Congress (APC) following the congress of the party held across the state with some of the stakeholders expressing disaffection with the conduct of the exercise.
The party had adopted consensus method to elect the leadership of the party at the ward congress in the 215 wards of the state.
Speaking with newmen shortly before the commencement of the adoption of the consensus exercise on Saturday at the Party Secretariat, State Caretaker Chairman of APC Alhaji Uba Ahmed Nana said that stakeholders resolved and adopted the consensus as the process to elect the leadership of the party in 212 wards in the state.
The Chairman explained that the decision was reached during a stakeholders meeting where majority members agreed on the method, adding that since the Constitution of the APC provide for two options of electing leaders of the party at all levels including election and room for consensus, the majority of the stakeholders opted for the consensus which informed the decision of the party has agreed to adopt the method.
He, however, revealed that there are some few dissenting voices among the stakeholders who rejected the idea of consensus instead insisting on election at all levels of the party.
The chairman also disclosed that there are report of disagreement among stakeholders in three LGAs, adding that the leadership of the party has resolved that until the warring parties agreed to unite and adopt a single leadership, the party will accept parallel leadership of the different groups in the affected LGAs.
In his remarks, Chairman of APC Ward Congress Committee in Bauchi State, Hon Sam Jibrin Dunga said that they are in Bauchi to conduct the party congress to strengthen and consolidate the party in the state, saying that since the stakeholders have adopted consensus in the state the committee will ensure hitch free exercise.
He said that, “We have brought along all the election materials and equipment for conduct of the primaries and ensure that all the guidelines are observed for the exercise.”
Jibrin Dunga also advised the leadership of the party in the state to reach out aggrieved members with a view to mend fences and unite the party in preparation to takeover the governorship seat in 2023 in Bauchi State.
Though Aminu Tukur said that all went well in the three LGAs that make up Bogoro /Dass/Tafawa Balewa Federal Constituency as all of the stakeholders of the party were actively involved in the consensus process that produced executive members in the 3 LGAs, he said that reports from other areas were different.
In Ningi/Warji Federal Constituency, the party has been factionalized Following the purported removal of the Speaker of Bauchi State House of Assembly, Abubakar Y Suleiman as Chairman of the Stakeholders of the APC in Ningi Local Government by the Alhaji Uba Nana led Caretaker Committee.
The Speaker who is the Chairman of the Conference of Speakers of State Legislatures of Nigeria urged his supporters to remain calm and not to take law into their hands but most of them according to reports from the area refused to participate in the congress.
The Speaker explained that as a loyal party member, he will never allow violation of the Constitution of the party and divisive actions that will bring misfortune and crisis to the party by some born-to-rule elements.
According to him, since his emergence as the Speaker of the State House of Assembly and the number 3 citizen in the State, he has been occupying the position of the Chairman of Stakeholders. However, just of a sudden the Local Government Party Chairman called and told him that he has received an instruction from the State Party Secretariat that he has been replaced by Abdullahi Sa’ad Abdulkadir (Baba Iyali) as Chairman of the Ningi Local Government APC Stakeholders.
The Speaker insisted that, “I remain the Chairman of Ningi APC Stakeholders, majority of the Critical Stakeholders recognise by the Party Constitution are with me and have already rejected my purported removal.”
He further stressed that, “The Stakeholders are the ones responsible for appointing their Chairman and I am enjoying the full support of virtually all of the them except very few. We will conduct the ward congresses and other congresses in conformity with the party’s Constitution and the Guidelines of the congresses,” he said.
Abubakar Suleiman also assured the party loyalists in Ningi Local Government that they will not allow anybody to handover the party to an individual whose only asset and connection to Ningi is the political position he fortuitously occupied.
