THE Deputy President of Kano Chamber of Commerce, Industry, Mines and Agriculture (KACCIMA), Ambassador Usman Darma, has said that KACCIMA is making moves to acquire Mallam Aminu Kano International Airport (MAKIA).
This move follows the announcement by the Federal Government to put Kano, Abuja, Lagos and Port Harcourt international airports, on concession.
According to him, the agency has over N50 billion in both moveable and immovable assets to judiciously maintain the acquisition of the airport while saying that the body can even acquire all the four airports if given chance.
“Already, we have consulted key stakeholders such as our business mogul and father, Alhaji Aminu Dantata, commercial and private airliners, hoteliers and other relevant stakeholders in a bid to take over the concession of the facility,” he stated.
Ambassador Darma who made the assertion at a press briefing in Kano on Monday revealed that the organization is making frantic efforts to see that MAKIA is conceded to Kano businessmen.
He noted that acquiring the concession is a great benefit to the people of Kano as it would subsidise services for them, generate revenue for the government and provide employment opportunities.
He disclosed that already, consultations with key stakeholders have gone far, just as the organisation had formed a technical committee, saddled with the responsibility to look at the guidelines and how to acquire the facility based on the guidelines.
He said: “Following the announcement by the Federal Government to concede Kano, Abuja, Lagos and Port Harcourt international airports, KACCIMA, in collaboration with other relevant stakeholders, are moving to acquire Mallam Aminu Kano airport.
“A technical committee has already been set up and we have given it two weeks to look at the guidelines and report back to us.”
He added that KACCIMA and other stakeholders are ready to take over the airport, promising to deliver efficient and affordable services to the people.
He however hinted that the stakeholders would engage the services of foreign partners who would be given some portion of the concession because they have more skills to manage the businesses.
“It is also part of the guidelines that foreign partners must be engaged in order to get the concession. I believe if we invite foreign partners, they would help us manage the business more efficiently because they have more skills and wherewithal,” he said.
