Compel my husband to care for my feeding, clothing and rent, woman prays court

A 38-year-old housewife, Adama Abdullahi, has prayed a Shari’a Court sitting at Magajin Gari, Kaduna, Kaduna State, to compel her husband, Yusuf Ambo, to take up his responsibilities in the home.

According to the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN), the petitioner, who resides at Shooting Range Area filed for divorce through Khul’I (Right of Redemption), thereby returning her dowry to her husband.

The respondent, however, sent a divorce letter after receiving a court summon.

Yusuf said he had returned his wife during Ramadan.

“He is left with two options, either to take care of my feeding, clothing and shelter as his responsibilities for three months in line with the Sharia law or forget about our marriage,” she said.

The respondent urged the court to give him time to reconcile with his wife.

The judge, Malam Murtala Nasir, said it was the responsibility of a husband to provide shelter, food and clothing for his wife.

He thus adjourned the case.
