The tragedy occurred as the Almajiris, who are Islamic pupils studying the Qur’an under a popular Islamic cleric, Malam Dan-Umma, in the Badariya area, a suburb of Birnin Kebbi, the State Capital,.

The deceased pupils and those injured were reported to be mining clay at Dukku Hill when it caved in and trapped them.
However, the Governor of the State, Comrade Nasir Idris, who is on an official trip abroad, sent a high-powered delegation comprising Commissioners and Special Advisers led by the Head of Service, Alhaji Safiyanu Garba Bena, to condole with the families of the departed.
