The Chief of Defence Staff (CDS), General Christopher Musa, extolled on Monday the immeasurable contributions and selfless dedication of the officers and men of the Armed Forces of Nigeria, both serving and retired, to the nation’s Unity
General Musa, in his goodwill message to the troops on the occasion of the 2024 Armed Forces Celebration and Remembrance Day, lauded the commitment and doggedness of troops in protecting the freedom and security of the nation, paving the way for peace and tranquilly in the country.
While paying tribute to the personnel, both serving and retired, the CDS pointed out that their sacrifices, efforts, and steadfast devotion in defence of Nigeria’s democracy and national unity would never be forgotten.
According to him, “We remember and pay our collective tribute to them for their sacrifices, not just today but every day, as they gave ‘their today’ for ‘our tomorrow’.
“On this special occasion, let me also honour and acknowledge the immeasurable contributions of our gallant officers and men, both serving and retired. Your selfless dedication to service in protecting our nation’s freedom and security has resulted in the relative peace that we enjoy today.
“I assure you of my unremitting support as you continue to uphold our values of respect for the rule of law, professionalism, loyalty to constituted authority, discipline, selfless service, and courage.
“For those who have suffered one form of injury or another, we appreciate you, and we will continue to pray for your quick recovery.
“Similarly, for those who have passed on, we thank you for your great sacrifices. Always remember that all your efforts and steadfast devotion in defence of our democracy and national unity in line with our constitutional roles will never be in vain.”
The CDS charged them to remain vigilant, uncompromising, and resolute while discharging their duties creditably for operational effectiveness and proficiency to enable them to curb all forms of security threats in the country.
He reiterated his resolve to prioritise the welfare of troops in his efforts to steer the affairs of the armed forces in line with the CDS leadership philosophy, which is “to nurture a professional Armed Forces of Nigeria that is people-centred and capable of meeting its constitutional responsibilities in a joint and collaborative environment.”.
Gen. Musa lauded President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for his strategic and logistical support and guidance to the Armed Forces of Nigeria and assured him of their unalloyed loyalty and commitment to defending the nation’s democratic values while ensuring peace, national unity, and cohesion.
He appreciated the families of the personnel, especially their spouses, for keeping the home front whenever duty beckons, noting that their inestimable sacrifices have been impactful and productive, and urged and sued for its sustenance.
The CDS therefore wished the gallant officers and men of the military a happy and successful Armed Forces Celebration and Remembrance Day 2024.
