Catholic Church donates relief materials to IDPs in Taraba

Published by

The Catholic Diocese of Jalingo on Tuesday donated relief materials to the Internally Displaced Persons (IDPs) in Bali Local Government Area of Taraba state.

Most Rev Dr Charles Hammawa, Bishop of the diocese noted at the event that the idea was in compliance with the teachings of Jesus who encouraged arms to give to the needy to alleviate their plight.

The Bishop who was represented by the diocesan Coordinator of the Justice Development and Peace Commission/Caritas, (JDPC) Rev Fr Stephen Bakari, regretted the continued attacks on people who according to him are suffering for no fault of theirs.

“This is not the best time for us as a nation especially as rural farmers here in Bali Local Government Area.

“I know it may be difficult to console you at a moment like this. But as a Church, our major concern is to relieve your pains to the barest minimum and urge you to allow the love of Christ to reign in your hearts.

“Most of you are terribly wounded. You need to flush out hatred and anger from your hearts for your healing to be quick.

Let me use this opportunity to call on the government to do the needful to end these killings.

“This situation is already creating a bleak future for all of us. Food security is under serious threats, the bonds that hold us together are continuously broken thereby making our differences dangerously more pronounced,” The Bishop lamented.

Mr Joseph Diche, leader of the IDPs who received the succor on behalf of the IDPs described the gesture as gracious

“We really appreciate the kindness of the Bishop, how he always help us in times like this and we also appreciate the JDPC for their efforts and support. It’s our prayer that the Almighty God will reward you and your efforts” The IDP leader prayed.
