Catching covid-19 from public transport

What are the chances of people contracting Corona virus from Nigeria’s public transport generally and in Lagos in particular such as yellow buses, tricycles, Lagbus, BRT and Uber cars?

The use of public transportation has been implicated in the spread of the Coronavirus infection in many countries in the world. In addition, researchers found that a bus passenger infected fellow travelers sitting 4.5 metres away.

The implications of this, with particular regards to our kind of public transport and shared taxi system, are huge. Therefore, to reduce the spread of the disease,managers of transport companies, terminal operators and company/vehicle owners need to sanitize and disinfect the terminals and vehicles repeatedly. It should also be mandatory for passengers and vehicle operators, to wear nose guards, have tissues/handkerchief and sanitize their hands before entering a public vehicle. More importantly is the need for public transport operators to ensure that passengers maintain physical distancing while travelling in their vehicles. This they can do by limiting the number of passengers carried in their vehicles.
