Calabar Magistrate Court adjourns Aforkang murder case

A magistrate court sitting in Calabar has again adjourned a murder case involving a final-year student of the University of Calabar, late Mr Gray Agbesu, who was allegedly shot dead by an officer of the Nigerian Army, on Friday, July 9, 2021, in Calabar.

The lawyer to the victims family who declined comments said “the case is still in court and I have nothing to say about the matter for now. The case has been adjourned till 20th October.

“The case has been adjourned to October 20, 2021, and the suspect(s) remanded in detention till further hearing. This is the second time the court is adjourning the matter.

“Counsel in the matter have canvassed that the magistrate court lacks the jurisdiction to adjudicate on the matter, and it is expected that the case will be transferred to High Court for trial. This could be decided on the next sitting.

“In court, were, the family members of the victim, the suspect(s) including his wife, Mrs Tracy Gray.

“The Nigerian army had earlier assured the family and the community that the soldier will be duly investigated and made to face judicial processes as deemed appropriate by the law.”
