THE Biafra Independence Movement, BIM has given Nigeria’s 19 years of democracy a hard knock, with particular emphasis on President Muhammadu Buhari’s three years of rulership.

BIM’s assertion is coming on the heels of a call yesterday by a human rights group, Civil Liberties Organization, CLO to meditate on the assertion of the late first President of Nigeria, Dr. Nnamdi Azikiwe that “the worst civilian regime is better than a most benevolent military regime.”

BIM said yesterday in a press statement issued by its Director of Information, Chris Mocha that three years of Buhari’s regime was characterized by massive corruption of government officials and killings of defenceless and innocent BIM/MASSOB members.

BIM insisted that Buhari’s rule was equally characterized by violation of rights of Nigerian citizens, disregard for the rule of law, disobedience to court orders, propagation of Jihadists agenda, among others.

It, therefore, urged Nigerians to exercise patience and allow Buhari to complete his tenure in the next one year and hand over the helm of affairs to a more democratic individual who can rescue Nigeria from the brink of collapse.

Chairman of CLO in Anambra state, Comrade Vincent Ezekwueme while reacting to Nigeria’s 19 years of democratic experiment and three of years of Buhari’s regime, said we should strive to sustain democracy and democratic principles at all costs by playing the game according to the rule.

According to Ezekwueme, “I commend Buhari for allowing a free and fair governorship election in Anambra state on November 18, last year and I would like him to extend such a magnanimity in 2019 general elections in the country and when that is done, then we shall know that we are advancing into democracy.”

“In summary, Ezekwueme continued, politicians, traditional rulers, religious leaders and even the electoral umpire must place all hands on deck to ensure the survival of democracy in the country or else we shall live to regret our corporate existence as Nigerian citizens.
