BREAKING: Police Service Commission clears Sen Misau over alleged forged letter of retirement

The Police Service Commission, PSC, on Wednesday cleared the Chairman, Senate Committee on Navy, Senator Isah Misau, accused by the Police authority of forging retirement letter from the Nigeria Police Force.

The Inspector General of Police (IGP), Ibrahim Idris, had alleged that the Senator was a deserter, adding that his retirement letter from the Force was forged.

The NPF therefore directed him to report in the Niger State Police Command with immediate effect to face disciplinary action.

However, the PSC waded into the matter and set up a panel to investigate the allegation and the claim by the Senator that his retirement followed due process

The Senator who was due before the panel yesterday refused the panel, but panel still sat and looked into the matter
At the end of its sitting, it was gathered that the commission reportedly absolved him of all accusations and supported his claims instead.

Confirming ‎the development with the Nigerian Tribune in Abuja on Wednesday, the Head of the Media and Publicity of the Commission, Mr Okechukwu Ani, stated that the retirement letters of Senator followed due process

‎According to him, “the Panel discovered that the retirement letter was issued to him based on due recommendations from the Force Headquarters on March 5, 2014 and was to take effect from December 10, 204.”

Mr Ani declared that the letter was not forged and that the Senator’s retirement from the Force followed due process.

He explained further that the Panel, headed by Justice Olufunlola Adekeye, went ahead with the meeting and found out that his retirement letter was authentic and it was done based on recommendation from the Force Headquarters in Abuja.

According to him, “At the meeting, the Panel made some inquiry and they confirmed that the Commission issued the letter, adding that it was based on recommendation for retirement from the Force Headquarters.

“The Police normally recommend people to us for retirement, so the recommendation came to the Commission and Misau’s name was included.

“We just confirmed that the retirement followed due process. The letter was dated March 5, 2014 to take effect from December 1, 2010.

“The Commission has gone through their document and confirmed that we issued the letter with reference number; PSC/1034/V8/244. What we are simply saying is that we gave him the letter of retirement.”
The Senator had accused the IGP of taking bribe for promotions of officers in the force and cornering of N10 billion of the Police revenue.
