Boyydam Pictures’ simplicity approach to lifestyle photography

Published by

Ilorin-born photographer, Abdulganeey Damilola Mustapha, widely recognized as Boyydam Pictures, has redefined the art of lifestyle photography through his innovative approach, characterized by simplicity and authenticity.

Abdulganeey, in an interview with Tribune Online, disclosed that his journey into photography wasn’t conventional. Despite coming from a background where media was familiar, he initially had no inclination towards the craft. It wasn’t until 2020, after he made the bold decision to leave formal education, that he discovered his passion for photography.

In 2022, Abdulganeey found his niche in lifestyle photography. His turning point came when he was hired by a group in Lagos State who admired his editing style. Recognizing his talent, they encouraged him to focus on lifestyle photography, a decision that would shape his career trajectory.

When asked about the key elements for creating compelling lifestyle photographs, Abdulganeey emphasizes the importance of understanding the subject and creating a comfortable environment. For him, it’s not just about the equipment, but also about establishing a genuine connection with his subjects to capture their true essence.

“What sets my approach apart is its simplicity and minimalism. Unlike many photographers who rely heavily on equipment and complex editing techniques, I find joy in capturing raw, unfiltered moments with minimal intervention. My belief is that the essence of lifestyle photography lies in its ability to capture the authenticity of everyday life without artificial embellishments,” he said.

To stay inspired and keep his work fresh, Abdulganeey draws inspiration from various sources, including fellow photographers and his personal interests, such as fitness. He also infuses his personal style into his work by adding subtle touches that reflect his unique perspective.

Through his innovative yet simple approach, Abdulganeey Damilola Mustapha, Boyydam Pictures, continues to push the boundaries of lifestyle photography, proving that sometimes, less is indeed more.
