The Comptroller, Nigerian Custom Service, Sokoto/Zamfara command, Musa Omale, has commended residents of Illela, the border community between Sokoto and Niger Republic for complying with the directive on the closure of the land border.
The Comptroller was in Illela local government to monitor the compliance as well as boost the morale of the officers and men of the command.
Speaking while addressing stakeholders and residents of the area, he reminded them that the Federal government directed the closure of all border stations with the Niger Republic following the coup by the military junta in the country.
“Today’s tour is a follow up to the Comptroller General of Customs visit to ensure full scale compliance and to further serve as a morale booster to the officers and men of the command.
“Since the closure, the command has continued to leverage intelligence to record numbers of interception.
“I am impressed with the additional layers of enforcement put in place. I also want to thank other sister security agencies for their cooperation towards enforcing the compliance, I implore you all to keep the tempo.”
Omale further extended his appreciation to the stakeholders, which includes importers, exporters and agents as well as the community for their patience over the current situation while assuring that the command is also hoping for a quick amicable resolution of the crisis.
Meanwhile, residents of the border community have again appealed to the federal government to review the border closure decision which they said has crippled their economic activities in the area.
