Billboard vandalism: Ighodalo urges restraint from candidates, supporters

In response to the recurrent vandalism of his campaign billboards, Dr. Asue Ighodalo, the gubernatorial candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Edo State, has called on candidates and their supporters to refrain from damaging the state due to political rivalry.

Reports indicate that several of Ighodalo’s billboards were found defaced and vandalized on Sunday. The affected billboards were located at key intersections, including Asoro bus stop, UNIBEN Ekenwan Campus, Agboma junction on Ekenwan road, and Akenzuwa after stadium road junction.

A member of the PDP’s Media Directorate in the Edo State Campaign Council, speaking anonymously, revealed that the vandalism has been ongoing since Ighodalo won the PDP primary election in February.

“They have been damaging Dr. Asue’s billboards since immediately after he won the PDP primaries in February. He remains calm despite this.

They are even destroying cars with AI stickers around Upper Sakponba. When we wanted to raise the issue with the press, he advised us to report to the relevant authorities and replace the billboards.

Even now, he has instructed us not to react to avoid escalating tensions,” the source said.

When contacted, Dr. Ighodalo declined to comment directly on the vandalism.

He stated, “I’m on the campaign trail, my brother. Let us talk when I get back to town. My singular focus is on how to move the largest number of Edolites into prosperity.

All these other things are distractions. Let me again appeal to everyone—candidates and supporters—not to destroy our state and institutions because of politics.”
