Biafra Day: COSEYL condemns IPOB sit-at-home in South East

Published by

Igbo youth organisation, Coalition of South East Youth Leaders (COSEYL), has condemned the sit-at-home order by the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) on Thursday for commemoration of the heroes and heroines of the Biafra Republic struggle.

In a statement issued by the president-general of the group, Comrade Goodluck Ibem, the Igbo youth described the sit-at-home order as insensitive, noting that it would disrupt the exams of over 300,000 students from the Southeast zone who would be writing the Mathematics of West African Examination Council (WAEC) examination slated to take place on Thursday throughout the West African region.

“This is an international exam that cuts across so many countries and it will be gross insensitivity and an act of wickedness against our students for anyone who has written his own WAEC exams before now without anyone stopping him or her from doing so to ask others not to write their own WAEC exams”, the statement partly read

The Igbo youth group described the sit-at-home as counterproductive and warned against any action that would distract the students during the examination.

The Igbo youth described the examination as critical for the future of the students.

They noted that WAEC authorities had already warned that they would not conduct any fresh examinations for any group of people who missed participating in the examination today.

“We therefore call on IPOB to cancel any arrangement that will derail or stop our students from writing their examination tomorrow.

“The truth is that the emancipation of our people does not include stopping our students from writing their examinations. We have to be wise,” the Igbo youth group urged.
