Before Odo Oba gets cut off

Obada in Odo Oba near Ogbomoso in Oyo State is one of the many communities on the Ibadan/Ilorin federal highway. Its market is the largest farm produce market in the South West.

The federal road that passes through the town has some failed portions. One of such is the gorge filled portions at Ileabu Ajiboye and Owode which is about 2.5 kilometres from Obada (Odo Oba).

Although the Federal Government has rehabilitated the failed portions in Odo Oba and we thank the government for this, spiral effects of the traffic gridlock caused by the impassable gorge at IleAbu Ajiboye can cause destruction to the good work done at Odo Oba.

Just a few days ago, a fuel tanker somersaulted on this spot, emptied its contents on the ground and went up in flames, leading to the complete burning of three fully loaded 18-seater commuter buses. This is apart from other road accidents that had led to losses of lives and properties.

Vehicles can no longer pass through the road and this has telling effects on the people. The wrong route that commuters now take has further debased their routine which has before now been made worse by the harsh economic situation in the country.

Long queues of articulated vehicles stretch more than five kilometers. Sellers and buyers cannot get to Odooba market to transact business. In a nutshell, Odooba has been cut away from the rest of the world.

We are urging the Federal Ggovernment of Nigeria to repair the failed portions of the road at Ileabu Ajiboye and Owode before they get worse and Odooba is completely cut off from the rest of the world.
