ROTIMI IGE, in this report, provides details about the newly upgraded Big Brother Naija house which took most viewers by surprise over its sheer opulence.

The sixth season of the biggest reality show in Africa, Big Brother Naija, premiered last Saturday on DStv and GOtv across Africa and for the first time in the United Kingdom via online streaming service, Showmax. The housemates this season will be competing for the grand N90million worth of prizes over the period of 72 days.

Every season, a huge anticipation and excitement usually accompanies the revelation of the new housemates, theme and the BBNaija house. This year, the organisers definitely lived up to expectation with an upgrade that thrilled all viewers, when the revamped BBNaija house was unveiled.

MultiChoice Nigeria, organisers of the show, had promised to surpass expectations; more exciting personalities with engaging activities and revealed that the BBNaija house had been upgraded with new facilities to promote the race for the grand prize.

Chief Executive Officer of MultiChoice Nigeria, John Ugbe said that the BBNaija house remained one of the biggest investments made for BBNaija every season as it is an integral part of the show. “A lot goes into the production of BBNaija. We ensure that with each season we deliver a great show and this includes the look and feel of the house.

“We will continue to maintain a high level of production standard to bring to our customers a show like never before seen from Nigeria”, he said.

The BBNaija house, when revealed on Saturday, trended immediately because of its sheer magnificence and opulence. Viewers described the house with words such as ‘dope’, ‘colorful’, ‘gorgeous’ and ‘beautiful’. Many could not contain their surprise and spoke about how the organisers of the show spared no expense to create a world-class experience, not just for the housemates, but the viewers as well.

Bolude Jacobs, an avid follower of the show, squealed with excitement about how she was impressed by the new additions to the house which include indoor games, an exclusive executive lounge and a luxurious Head of House (HoH) room.

She said, “I was pleasantly surprised to see the house this year with major upgrades. The Head of House room looks like the presidential suite of a 5-star hotel! With gold trimmings on most of the furniture in the room, it felt like a room out of a castle. I wish I could spend just one night in that room; I would feel like the most important person in the world. It was nice to see the green executive room, the garden among others”, she said.

From revelations by the organisers, this year’s biggest change would be the brand-new mezzanine floor added to the structure measuring over 200sqm. This is in addition to the original house, which measures about 1800sqm with an additional 250sqm for support building services such as the presenter and artistes’ lounges and an art room where all the props for the arena games are made. This new floor features a brand new indoor games lounge with a trophy cabinet, the private executive lounge accessible only at specified periods and of course, the coveted royal Head of House room, said to measure over 50sqm!

All the new spaces reveal eye catching interior designs and showed that no expense was indeed spared. For example, the executive lounge features green tufted upholstery with matching green walls and a wallpaper reminiscent of the rain forest.

The Victorian-themed Head of House room features a gold headboard above the king-sized bed and a vanity table, against a wall with gold detailing.

The indoor games lounge offers the housemates a snooker board, foosball set and table tennis. The games lounge overlooks the kitchen/dining area with the balcony railing lined with tribal design potted plants.

Meanwhile the design aesthetic in the common areas of the house features bright colors and geometric shapes with accents of African décor pieces in strategic locations. A gold lion statue is also sited at the foot of the HoH chair. The outdoor area also features a redesigned patio with a mural painting and Jacuzzi.

According to the organisers, all pieces in the house were locally sourced with close to 75 artisans working round the clock to bring this season’s theme to life.

The addition of the new floor has also seen an increase in the number of cameras in the house. The ‘Pepper Dem’ house in 2019 was designed to take seven hand-held cameras and 32 que ball cameras. The ‘Shine Ya Eye’ season has 14 hand-held cameras and 37 que ball cameras capturing the housemates 24/7.

The mezzanine floor alone has 11 of those que balls and two hand-held cameras. There are also two times more ambience microphones to capture every conversation in the house.

BBNaija season 6, the Shine Ya Eye edition, with 22 housemates, has again captured the attention of fans around the world and with a totally revamped, fully loaded house as was provided by the franchise. It is safe to say that this season will be the best one so far.
