Ahead of the Saturday governorship election in Bayelsa State, supporters of the candidate of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP), Douye Diri flooded the state on Wednesday with foodstuffs, souvenirs, and other items for the underprivileged.
The items were specifically targeted at the underprivileged and the masses who have expressed their support for the re-election of Governor Diri and his running mate, Senator Lawrence Ewhrudjakpo, come Saturday.
Our correspondent reports that the items were being distributed amid Governor Diri rounding off his campaign ahead of Saturday.
The distribution of the foodstuffs and souvenirs came after a retreat spearheaded by members of the Grassroots Movement for the Re-Election of Douye/Ewhrudjakpo in Yenagoa on Wednesday.
The event, which was organised centrally in Yenagoa, attracted all relevant stakeholders and the who-is-who in Bayelsa State politics.
The movement, whose tentacles spread across the length and breadth of the state, assured Governor Diri and his deputy of total victory at the Saturday, November 11 poll.
.
Shortly after the Yenagoa retreat, the movement proceeded to the various wards and units in the creeks across the three senatorial districts, where they equally distributed souvenirs and other items to the underprivileged.
Speaking during the political gathering, on behalf of the movement, Bayelsa Central Coordinator, Hon. Abel Ebifemowei, Bayelsa West Coordinator, Hon. Alex Jenakumo, and the Deputy Coordinator, Hon. Charity Kens Godwin, made inseparable remarks lauding Diri for his good governance.
They claimed the governor has done well in his first term by bringing prosperity to the people, which, they affirmed, is the major reason the masses are clamouring for his re-election.
On their part, Deputy Coordinator, Bayelsa East, Hon. George Turner, and Deputy Coordinator, Bayelsa Central, Chief Natus Zebakame, also underscored the sterling performance of Diri, saying that was the reason they deployed their resources in support of the re-election bid of the governor and his deputy.
