Bauchi workers appeal for regular promotions, payments of salaries, pension

Workers in Bauchi State have appealed to the State Governor, Sen. Bala Mohammed Abdulkadir to as a matter of necessity set machinery in motion for regular release and implementation of promotions to all deserving civil servants.

The appeal was made by the Bauchi State chairman Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC), Comrade Danjuma Saleh on Saturday during the commemoration of the 2021 international Workers Day held at the Command Guest House.

According to him, the promotions are not coming as at when due lamenting that passing promotions examinations are not a guarantee for one to be promoted in the state now in spite of the efforts put into it by the civil servants.

The NLC also solicited additional funding on the monthly allocations to the state and local government pension boards to enable them to cover a significant number of retirees who are presently languishing over non-payments.

On the abolition of public rented quarters by the government, the NLC chairman said “It is also fair to restore the rent allowances of the affected officers to enable them to continue to pay for alternative accommodation.

In his speech, the state Governor, Sen Bala Mohammed represented by the Speaker of the State House of Assembly, Abubakar Y Suleiman said the present challenge for workers is to follow the noble leadership of their founding fathers in order to achieve turn around of the economy.

He further said that since the inception of his administration, measures are being put in place to ensure stabilization of salaries and pensions payment whereby the nominal roll will primarily drive the payroll, block leakages, improve cash flow management and cut irrelevant spending.

The Governor then assured the workers that his administration will continue to prioritize salary payment which he said is the legitimate right of every civil servant warning however that dereliction of duty and insolence will not be tolerated.
