Bauchi school principal demands apology from online medium, threatens legal action

A school Principal in Bauchi, Mr Gideon Gambo has given an Online medium, Wikki Times, a seven-day ultimatum to retract its publication linking him with the former Speaker of House of Reps, Yakubu Dogara where he was referred to as an uncle to the politician.

Gideon Gambo through his Solicitors, Adegbite Chambers described as “insidious and malicious use of our client’s name in one of the online publications published by your media outfit captioned “Investigation: How Yakubu Dogara, UBEC squandered N1 Billion model school projects” and written by one Elijah Ojonicko.”

The letter written to the Online medium and signed by Oluwole Olukunle Moses Esq reads, “We are solicitors to Gideon Gambo, the Principal of Gwarangah Government Junior Secondary School, Bogoro Local Government, Bauchi state, hereinafter refers to as our client and we have his express authority and instruction to write to your media
organization.”

The letter further contained that, “it has come to the attention of our client and it has been noticed that all information credited to his name in the said publication were totally false and far from being correct in any respect.”

“We wish to reiterate that our client is not in any way related to Honour Yakubu Dogara, former speaker of the House of Representatives and member representing Bogoro Dass Tafawa Balewa Federal Constituency of Bauchi State, not to talk of being an uncle to the said lawmaker contrary to your media organization’s publication under the reference.”

“As a matter of fact, all the pieces of information credited to our client’s name as contained in the said publication were mere conjecture conceived and birthed to malign the personality of the lawmaker. This is because our client has never at any point in time granted any interview to any of your media correspondents in respect of all the matters referenced in the publication in question and therefore had no cause to give such responses quoted in the publication”, the letter further contained.

The Solicitors then stated that “We hereby state in clear terms that our client disclaimed all the purported information quoted and credited to his name personally and officially, and disassociated himself from the entire publication under reference and demand that you remove/delete his name from the said publication with immediate effect.”

“Furthermore, our client also demand a public apology which is to be published in two national dailies, including your media platform for using his name illegally, surreptitiously to malign the personality of Hon. Yakubu Dogara within seven (7) days taking effect from the day the service of this letter is effected on you or face the legal action which is to be commenced by our client in a competent court of law up your failure to comply within the time-limited herein with our client’s demands and may consider or regard this letter as a legal pre-action notice,” the letter concluded.
