Bauchi govt awards N17b road projects in 100 days

PDP led administration in Bauchi State has awarded contracts for various road projects worth over N17 billion covering 92.6 kilometres within its first 100 days office.

The disclosure was made by the State Governor, Sen Bala Mohammed Abdulkadir during a Media chat as part of the activities for the celebration of the first 100 days of his administration held at the Banquet Hall, Government House Bauchi Saturday evening.

Bala Mohammed Abdulkadir said that to ensure speedy completion of the projects 50 per cent of the amount has been released to the contractors handling the projects in order to fast track their execution.

The Governor also said that over N227 million has been spent for various projects in the health sector within the first 100 days of his administration explaining that the projects include renovation, purchase of Ambulances and repairs of X-ray machines at Bauchi Specialist Hospital, as well as general hospitals in Dass, Azare, Alkaleri, Ningi, Dambam and Gamawa.

He said that already the present administration in the state has paid the sum of N200 million as its counterpart contribution to the fund of the Primary Healthcare for Immunisation activities in addition to the payment of N100 million for Basic Healthcare Provision Fund.

The Governor who pointed out that, N673 million was disbursed to selected Primary Healthcare facilities that are participating in the NSHIP partnership program, said that the 20 local government Areas have been ordered to contribute 1 per cent of their internally generated revenue to the Bauchi State Healthcare Trust Fund.

On education, Bala Mohammed said that N10.8b  has been injected into the state as education intervention from TETFUND and UBEC noting that, over N600 million has been released for the purchase of fertiliser and agrochemicals as a revolving fund to ensure a steady supply of inputs.

According to the Governor, in an effort to ensure zero tolerance for corruption in the state, a High Powered Committee has been constituted for the recovery of government properties and funds from previous administrations and individuals.

The Governor said that his administration has put all the machinery in place to facilitate desired development and growth in all the potential areas of the state through the appointment of State Commissioners, Special Advisers, Heads of MDA’s as well as Caretaker Committee Chairmen.
