A Civil Society Organization (CSO), based in Bauchi, Langa Women Development Initiative has advocated for a budget line in the area of Tuberculosis awareness campaign and education.
Executive Director of the CSO, Grace Maikudi, made the call on the state government during a partnership visit to another CSO, Journalists for Public Health Development Initiative (J4PD).
She stressed that the issue of the tuberculosis awareness campaign has been relegated to the background and left only for annual celebration and ceremony which does not have a positive impact.
The ED though commended the establishment of various centers across the state, said the proper funding of activities that will impact in the effective management of the disease is grossly inadequate.
Grace Maikudi called on the state government to make funds available to the Bauchi State Agency for the Control of Tuberculosis, Malaria and HIV/AIDS (BACATMA) to enable it to actively engage in awareness, enlightenment and education of the communities.
She then stressed the importance of partnerships between the two CSOs in an effort to ensure that tuberculosis got the required attention from the government and other donor agencies.
She noted that her CSO is working on getting more funds to empower women and other vulnerable people within the communities, particularly those suffering from tuberculosis in order to give them hope.
In her response, the Coordinator of J4PD, Elizabeth Nange Kah, commended Langa Women Empowerment Initiative for rising to the occasion as it affects tuberculosis, agreeing that the awareness campaign is very low.
She stressed that a lot needed to be done by government and donor agencies in order to fight the tuberculosis surge among the people, pointing out that synergy among CSOs can be a more effective way to address the issue.
Elizabeth Kah assured that having partnered other CSOs in the past, J4PD is always ready to have more partnership in the effort to promote public health development.
The J4PD Coordinator further assured that the two CSOs can work together and open vistas that will be used for effective and efficient healthcare service delivery across the state.
