Banditry: People of Zuru Emirate send SOS to state, federal govt

Families, relatives and victims affected by insurgency and banditry activities in Zuru Emirate of Kebbi State have cried out over the rising security challenges facing their defenceless communities.

The spokesman of the victims, Mallam Danlami Isa Bena, while addressing newsmen in Zuru, on Monday, said the dangerous situation has impacted negatively on the socio-economic activities of their people more especially in the areas of commerce and agriculture.

Bena stated that Mass murder, burning of children, insertion of dry cell batteries into women’s private part, burning of grains and villages, cattle rustling and multiple kidnappings in the area are too much close to genocide.

“We are living in a dilemma. We have reported our plights to the Inspector General of Police through official channels but things keep growing from bad to worse.”

A meeting according to him was held in Zuru with the Heads of National Security Agencies, the Kebbi State Governor, The Emir of Zuru amongst many others in attendance but to date, the situation remains bleak.

He said further that “we have paid over one hundred million naira as ransom to regain freedom for our captured family members in the hands of kidnappers besides losing dozens of lives, thousands of livestock, acres of arable farmlands as well as houses during banditry attacks.”

The spokesman further stated that the people of Zuru are law-abiding citizens as demonstrated by the number of officers and men in all arms of security in the country by sacrificing their lives for the general wellbeing of Nigerians as such same should be done to their communities now under siege by insurgents.

Family members and victims of banditry and kidnapping according to the Spokesman will continue talking to the concerned authorities until the security challenges in Zuru Emirate is solved.
