Badagry diocese charges FG on diversification, restructuring

Published by

The Badagry diocese of the Church of Nigeria, Anglican Communion, has called on the Federal Government to diversify into agriculture, solid minerals, tourism, and other critical sectors, as a way of ending the economic crisis.

The church stated this in a communiqué, at the first session of the fifth synod of Badagry Anglican Diocese, under the direction of the leadership of the president of the synod and the diocesan bishop, The Right Reverend (Dr) B.J. Adeyemi.

The synod also joined the calls for restructuring, in order to reflect true federalism and commended the Federal Government on its efforts at reviving the economy and the fight against corruption.

It, however, decried the increasing rate of insecurity in the country and called on government to put adequate structures in place to effectively arrest the situation.

“The synod acknowledges the various efforts of the government in sustaining the economy and recommended that further efforts should be made in promoting and pursuing other sources of revenue such as agriculture, solid minerals, tourism and others.

“More positive reaction should be taken to address the issue of our ailing economy and provision of employment to our restive youths. New proactive measures should be taken in the fight against corruption, such as establishment of special courts to try corrupt politicians, civil servants and businessmen. There should be the development of a blueprint for our schools to sensitise our young ones on the evil posed by corruption to our growth and development ,” the communiqué read.

The diocese commended the Lagos State government for the achievements recorded during its two years stay in office, noting “in particular, the connection to the national grid, 30 communities within the Gbaji/Seme axis, which have been without electricity for 16 years.”
