Atiku visits Akinola in Ibadan, laments insecurity in Nigeria

Published by

FORMER Vice President, Alhaji Atiku Abubakar, on Thursday paid a courtesy visit to the Aare Musulumi of Yorubaland, Alhaji Dawud Akinola, in his residence in Ibadan, Oyo State.

In a welcome address, a former Secretary to the Oyo State Government, Dr Saka Balogun, described Abubakar’s visit to the leader of Yoruba Muslims as a gesture of goodwill to Muslims in the South West and indeed the entire southern Nigeria.

Dr Balogun said Nigerians were waiting for the emergence of the Alhaji Abubakar presidency to clear the mess that had been created by the present administration.

He prayed Allah to grant the wish of the Turakin Adamawa to steer the ship of the country.

Responding, the former vice president said his visit to Oyo State was an attempt to reconnect with the South West through the region’s Muslim leaders.

He said he was overwhelmed by the warm reception accorded him.

Speaking on the state of the nation, Alhaji Abubakar expressed disgust at the “perilous situation the country is in,” stating that even during the civil war, the country was not as bad as it is today.

He said all hands must be on deck to rescue the country from those that are responsible for plunging it into “this anarchy.”

Alhaji Abubakar commended what he described as the sincere love of the Aare Musulumi of Yorubaland, Alhaji Dawud Akinola, for the people of Oyo State and Yorubaland.

He said the Muslim leader had always been known for his friendliness and hospitality.

Other dignitaries who received the delegation of the former vice president include the Chief Imam of Oluyole Estate Extension Central Mosque, Alhaji Mudathir Bada; chairman of Yusrullah Association of Nigerian (YAN), Alhaji Isiaka Adeniran; the Iyalaje Adinni of Yorubaland, Alhaja Sidikat Aderibigbe; Dr Kola Hammed, Chairman, Aare Musulumi-in-Council and Chairman, Oyo State Civil Service Commission, Alhaji Kamoru Aderibigbe.

On Abubakar’s delegation were former governor of Niger State, Alhaji Muazu Babangida Aliyu; Senator Dino Melaye, Senator Abiodun Olujinmi, Senator Abdul Ningi and other top politicians.
