At 50, Church demands posthumous award for founder, Benson Idahosa

FOR his numerous contributions to the social-economic development of the country, the Church of God Mission International has demanded that the founder, late Archbishop Benson Idahosa, be conferred with a posthumous national award.

Speaking yesterday in Benin during the occasion of the 50th year anniversary of the founding of the church, the Chairman, organizing committee, Prof. John Okhuoya said the church will not relent but will keep on reminding those in the corridors of power to do the needful and reward those who have contributed immensely to the growth and survival of the country.
“How can we quantify what he has done to this nation. We are passionate about it. We feel that Papa has not been properly honoured; not even one university even if it is posthumous.

“People should be touched, let those in the corridors of powers, let us do something to honour this man.”

The university don said that Papa as the “charismatic man of God with fire in his bones” was fondly called deserved a national honour and recognition for pioneering Pentecostalism in the country, adding that the committee has approached some persons and was sure that its efforts will not be in vain.

He noted that the church was not relenting and will keep pushing the matter until Idahosa who passed on in 1998 is given the right place of honour in the country.

Okhuoya said if a day could be set aside to honour the late American Civil Rights leader, the Rev Martin Luther King, the church also hope that one day, the federal government will also set aside a day to honour the late clergyman who did the country proud both at the local and international scenes.
