Army chief advocates continuous synergy with media in tackling insecurities

The Garrison Commander, 8th Division, Brigadier General Alex Amos Tawasimi, has called for the sustenance of synergy between the Nigerian Army and the media industry in order to end the insecurity in the country.

The Army chief assured that the Nigerian Army will not allow insurgents and violent extremists to thrive on and take advantage of the wrong or right perception of society towards its operational activities to strike.

Brigadier General Tawasimi said this in Sokoto on Wednesday during an audience with newsmen.

He said the Garrison Command has Sokoto State as its area of operations and responsibility. It’s operations were strictly secure and cut across the length and breadth of Sokoto State and its environs.

He reiterated that the command would always right-track its activities in defence of the nation and its sovereignty against enemies of the state.

According to Tawasimi, “We are strategic and proactive to ensure we counter wrong perceptions using the media as our best tool against enemies.

” Whatever we say or do has an impact and is in the limelight, especially when reported.

” The media remains the most viable tool and important aspect that drives and sets societal agendas or solutions to problems for development.

” We are Nigerians, and we are working for Nigerians to ensure peace and stability for all in line with our constitutional mandate. We need a cordial relationship with the media, he added.

He further called on the media to project and showcase its objectives for society to know what the Nigerian Army was doing for the love of and in defence of our dear country.
