APC leaders will decide fate of S/East on 2023 presidency, says Ebonyi gov

Published by

Ebonyi State governor and new entrant to the All Progressives Congress, David Umahi on Wednesday evaded a question on the zoning of Presidency to the Southeast geopolitical zone.

Fielding questions from newsmen at the APC national secretariat when he visited his counterpart from Yobe State and Chairman of the party Caretaker Committee, Mai Mala Buni, the Ebonyi State governor said he has no personal opinion on which zone should take the party presidential ticket in 2023.

He claimed it would amount to indiscipline for any chieftain of the ruling party to agitate for his zone without recourse to the party organs.

He said: question: “It is a party affair. It is very wrong for any party person to make personal views on such a matter. Party discipline requires that you sit down and discuss issues. You advance your reasons and another person will also advance his. And then the party as a family will take a position. Not even as a new member. Even if I am an old member, I will not like to comment.”

Appraising the ongoing membership registration and revalidation exercise by his party, the Ebonyi State governor commended the process as he faulted the reservation expressed by certain leaders of the party.

He commended the Governor Buni led interim leadership for seizing the initiative and expressed delight over the turn out in the Southeast.

“The ongoing registration, arrangements and logistics and the intentions are very wonderful. It is the first-class because I have never seen it in any party administration. So it is important I come to commend him and to also commend the staff who are working with him. This is essentially the reasons why I have come.

“APC is just coming on board in South East. I complained to him that the hundreds of forms at the polling Units are a far cry from what we experience. Everybody in South-East wants to belong to the APC.

“Mr President has actually helped South East so much. And in every of my broadcast or media chats, I have always enumerated what Mr President has done for our people. And Ebonyi state is a shining example of intervention by Mr President.

“So the narrative is changing. But, when I went to Jigawa and saw what they are doing like Yobe, Kebbi and other APC governors, I shouted that we are so much under-reported. Because the only way evil can thrive is for good men to keep quiet.

“So, the South East is very appreciative of the efforts of Mr President in the development of the South East. Everybody is interested in the revalidation and registration exercise. We want the Chairman of the party to take note of this.”
