APC congress: Let’s comport ourselves as political family, Senator Sheriff pleads with chieftains

Ahead of Friday’s conduct of the All Progressives Congress (APC) state congresses across the country, former Borno State governor and chairmanship aspirant, Senator Ali Modu Sheriff, has urged the party chieftains to ensure that the process was devoid of rancour.

The aspirant gave the admonition in a goodwill message ahead of the congress expected to precede the conduct of the zonal and national convention.

In a statement read to newsmen on Thursday on behalf of Senator Sheriff, spokesman of the campaign organisation, Senator Rampyah Victor Lar, said a seamless congress without internal bickering would guarantee victory for the APC at the next general elections.

He said: “I urge members of the party in the 36 states of the federation and the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) to conduct themselves peacefully and in a manner that will bring credence to the party and the country generally.

“Party members and all contestants should see the state congresses as a family affair and not a do or die affair so that it will be a win-win situation for everybody at the end of the day.

“This is critical to ensure unity of the party, so we can face the challenges ahead and the 2023 general election as a united front. Infighting and bickering will take us nowhere.

“Bearing in mind Mr President’s performance, it is expected that the 12 million votes will be greatly enhanced so that the APC remains the dominant party in Nigeria for a long time to come.”

While thanking the governors for their commitment towards the successful conduct of ward and local government congresses, Senator Sheriff further restated his vision to work for the growth of the party in conjunction with governors whom he noted are the leaders of the party in their respective states.

“In the same vein, I want to use this opportunity to thank all the APC governors who are leaders in their various states for the good work they are doing in the respective states by delivering democracy dividends to the people.

“By the grace of Allah when elected as the APC next national chairman, I will work harmoniously with the governors, the senators and members of the House of Representatives of the National Assembly and the party leaders in the interest of the party and the country at large under the guidance of Mr President.

“I also want to use this opportunity to stress the fact that I am desirous of working for the party to strengthen it the more and to give the country the opportunity to prosper further under the leadership of President Buhari.

“I particularly thank President Buhari for leading the country and the party in the right direction despite challenges,” he said.
