ALL Progressives Congress (APC) in Anambra State has commenced registration and revalidation of members with an assurance that the party will ensure a level playing field for all.
Mr Chris Akomas, state chairman of the National Registration and Revalidation Committee, gave the assurance in an interview with newsmen at Umunya, Oyi Local Government Area, on Wednesday.
Akomas, who spoke shortly after registering a governorship aspirant, Dr Chike Obidigbo, said the party had worked out a system to manage both old and new members.
“We have come to make it easy and possible for all calibre of people, both old and new, to work together as a family, especially in the South-East zone.
“Change is taking root in the country; we want to ensure that the members we have exist and are focused and committed.
“It is an opportunity to up the tempo and open the gateway for the South-East geo-political zone to take its rightful place in the scheme of things in the country.”
Akomas said that thumbprints and photographs of members were being captured, adding that the credibility of the exercise would enhance the party’s scope and strength in the region.
In a remark, Obidigbo, the party’s aspirant in the November governorship election in the state, hailed the exercise, describing the party as “the right place to be.”
He said that the South-East region had been politically short-changed in the scheme of things and urged the people of the zone to turn out en masse to register.
“I think it is time to reconsider our stand as a people and move to recover all the benefits of the zone.
“Much work is needed to develop the economy to sustain the needs of the people and I believe that APC has all it takes to grow the economy.”
According to him, Nigeria is a virgin economy that requires people with a special kind of skill to know the right thing to do and provide sustainable environment for businesses to thrive.
“If allowed to govern the state, I will make the difference and introduce visible measures that will touch the lives of the people.”
The governorship aspirant reiterated that if elected, his administration would focus on agriculture and job creation for youths.
NAN reported that the leadership of the party in the state targets between 750,000 and one million card carrying members during the exercise.
