A group, the Forum for Former State Chairmen of the Defunct Congress for Progressives Change, has expressed its support for the former Governor of Nasarawa State, Senator Tanko Al-Makura, to become the next National Chairman of the ruling party (APC).
In a statement jointly signed by the group’s National Coordinator, Kassim Mabo, National Secretary, Sulaiman Oyaremi, and National Publicity Secretary, Com. Godwin Erhahon described the former governor as a unifier and bridge builder.
They believe that Al-Makura is the best candidate to fill the vacuum left by the CPC bloc within the party and that his leadership qualities make him well-suited for the position.
The statement further emphasized that Al-Makura’s emergence as National Chairman would promote cohesion within the party.
They noted that he was one of the four contenders for the position during the last APC National Convention, alongside H.E. Sen Abdullah Adamu, who recently resigned, Senator Soliu Mustapha, and H.E. Senator George Akume.
“Considering Senator Al-Makura’s sterling leadership qualities, which are acknowledged by all party members, and his affiliation with the CPC, we believe he is the most suitable candidate for the vacant seat of the National Chairman.
This appointment would be a perfect fit, considering that the President and Vice President come from ACN and ANPP backgrounds, respectively.
It will help ensure a balanced representation of the party’s different factions and promote unity within the party system,” the statement reads.
The group urged the party’s leadership to seriously consider Al-Makura for the position, as they believe it would strengthen the party and enhance its overall effectiveness.
