Amaechi to attend Rivers APC thanksgiving, set to announce presidential ambition

It has been officially confirmed that the Minister of Transportation, Rotimi Chibuike Amaechi would be in attendance at Saturday’s church thanksgiving organised by the Rivers State Chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC).

It is expected that the two-term Minister and former Governor of Rivers State would also use the occasion to publicly announce his long-rumoured interest in contesting for the presidency of Nigeria.

The Rivers State Chapter of the APC planned a thanksgiving ceremony for Saturday, March 9, 2022, to hold at the Adokie Amasiemaka Stadium.

A notice signed by the state party chairman, Chief Emeka Bekee has it that the Rivers APC planned the event to thank God for how He has enabled the party to weather the storm of the prolonged crisis in 2018.

The notice also stated that party faithful in Rivers State expect its leader and the Minister of Transportation, Amaechi to capitalise on the occasion being organised to attract a huge number of party faithful across the state and beyond to declare his resolve to join the contest for the number one political position in Nigeria.

A prolonged internal crisis leading to numerous litigations bedevilled the party from 2018 till recently, costing the party heavy political losses as the APC could not present a single candidate at any level of the political arena during the 2019 general elections.

Currently, all the legal hurdles which also threatened the party’s participation in the 2023 general elections have been cleared paving the way for the party, hence the thanksgiving.

Nigeria Tribune enquiries confirmed that Amaechi would be at the Saturday event, but what could not be immediately confirmed is if Amaechi would indeed announce his presidential ambition on that date.

Speaking via the telephone Thursday afternoon, a close source to the Minister who pleaded anonymity confirmed that the Minister had cleared his schedule for part of thanksgiving. He however could not confirm if the Minister would make any statement about contesting the 2023 presidential election.

The source said; “Yes, I can confirm to you that the Hon. Minister will be at the thanksgiving on Saturday. It’s a very important event for the Rivers APC considering the travails of the party in recent years. And having achieved a reasonable advancement from the sad incidents of 2018 to the recent past, I think the thanksgiving is imperative”.

“As I speak with you, we are going in an advance party of the Minister preparatory for his arrival on Saturday. So I can assure you that the Minister and leader of our party in Rivers will be there live the thanksgiving. What I cannot assure you is if the Minister would make any statement on his presidential ambition. We all wait and see how everything plays out on Saturday”.
