Amaechi not funding Cross River APC ―Chieftain

Published by

VICE-CHAIRMAN of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in the Central Senatorial district of Cross River State, Cletus Obun has dismissed insinuations in some quarters that Minister of transport and former governor of Rivers State, Rotimi Amaechi was funding the APC in Cross River.

Obun who stated this in an exclusive chat with the Tribune Online in Calabar on Friday said though Amaechi midwifed the process that led to the setting up of the present structure of APC in Cross River but was not funding the party.

He said, ‘this is a case of misinformation- Amaechi only midwifed the process of setting up the structure of the APC in Cross River. As sitting governor of Rivers State and Adams Oshiomole has sitting governor of Edo State- Adams Oshiomole was made to midwife Delta and Edo states while Amaechi was made to midwife Rivers, Bayelsa, Akwa Ibom and Cross River States.

‘’All these states were put under their supervision due to their level of resources in order to mobilize the APC registration process and the process that led to the congresses. Thereafter it doesn’t become your property- Amaechi is not funding APC in Cross River as we stand today.’’

Insisting that Amaechi should stop meddling into the internal affairs of the APC in Cross River, Obun said, ‘’Support among political parties within geopolitical zones is a normal process. For instance Arthur Nzeribe was in charge of South East under SDP it didn’t make him to become the headmaster of Cross River State, it didn’t make him to become the supervisor and superintendent of the entire South eastern region, so Amaechi’s case is not different and he is not doing anything superlative.

‘’To the extent that he midwifed the process that produced the present structure of the APC in Cross River State- he was deeply involved.

‘’By some happy coincidence the structure he set up emerged at the ministerial level, so to that extent he still has an influence and the political actors still show him loyalty. But that influence has become a negative influence- I can tell you it is beginning to affect us and some of us who are political actors feel insulted by that.

‘’I have not directly had his influence here but those who think that he has should also spare us the oddity of making him a reference point in Cross River. Cross River is not a local government in Rivers State- he has a lot of battle to do with Governor Wike in Rivers so he should concentrate on that’’
