Alberta to invest in African market — Premier Kenney

Alberta targets African market as part of its diversification strategy Premier Jason Kenney said Friday.

Kenney said this in Calgary while speaking at a party held in honor of Hon. Kaycee Madu, Minister of Municipal Affairs at White Diamond Conference Centre.

“Now that we see trade barriers emerging in Asia and uncertainty in the United States, it is a clear call to us to diversify our trade markets and that must include Africa,” Kenney said.

Kenney, Alberta’s 18th Premier led United Conservative Party (UCP) to an overwhelming election victory in April after scoring 55% of the popular vote in a campaign focused on jobs, economy, and pipelines.

Speaking on behalf of African Coalition Alberta, Stephen Mutizwa challenged Alberta to show more interest in Africa.

African Coalition Alberta, a non-partisan, not for profit association of Canadians of African descent organised the congratulatory and appreciation party in honor of Kaycee Madu, first African Canadian of Nigerian origin to win election as Member of Alberta Legislative Assembly (MLA).

Madu was elected MLA for Edmonton-South West on April 16, 2019, and was appointed Minister on April 30, 2019.

Alberta is Canada’s leading oil producer and ranks first in Canada in terms of established oil reserves with an estimated 1.4 billion cubic metres largely because of an unconventional oil resource and bituminous oil sands.

Alberta’s key export markets include the Asia Pacific, the Americas, Europe, Middle East, India, and South Africa. Alberta’s export to South Africa in 2018 was $33.65M.

Alberta maintains international offices in Beijing, Guangzhou, Hong Kong, Japan, Korea, Mexico, New Delhi, Shanghai, Singapore, Taiwan, United Kington, and Washington.
