Akure killing: NSCDC fails to produce suspect for investigation ― Police

Published by

Following the killing of a middle-aged woman by an official of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) in Ondo state, during a protest in Akure, the Police in the state has alleged the NSCDC of thwarting its investigation.

An officer of the NSCDC officer was alleged to have shot the woman identified as Mama Delta to death in Akure, last Wednesday, which later sparked off a protest among the residents of the town.

According to a source, the deceased was among the family member who accompanied the corpse of the young man, Yakubu Lasisi,  killed in an accident which involved another NSCDC officer in Akure, to the cemetery.

However, a source alleged the NSCDC command of trying to sweep the matter under the carpet, over its failure to produce the alleged killer of the woman for investigation after five days of demanding for the  officer

But a source within the NSCDC command said the officer who killed the young man in an accident had been arrested by the police and identified him as Ifeoluwa.

However, the state Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO) Mr Femi Joseph, said the NSCDC has failed to produce the suspect and said: “this is making it difficult for the police to commence an investigation into the matter.”

Joseph said: ” We need the suspect, we need to interrogate him, but he has not been produced, we are still expecting them ( NSCDC) to produce him.

“We have served them formally to produce the suspect but up till this time I am speaking with you, we have not heard from them.

“Maybe they are expecting the directive from their national headquarters before they can produce him, i don’t know and can’t speak for them. All I know is that, they have not produced the suspect. ”

The PPRO, however, said the NSCDC officer, Ifeoluwa, who was arrested for allegedly killing the bricklayer in an accident would soon be charged to court.

When contacted, the Public Relations Officer of the Ondo NSCDC command, Mr. Oladapo Samuel, who had earlier denied the involvement of the officer of the command in the alleged killing, said he was not in the town and could not say anything about the development.

” I am not in town now, I will find out when i get to the office tomorrow (today),” he stated.
