Akiolu to Sanwo-Olu: Beware of hypocrites, don’t rush to take decisions

Published by

The Oba of Lagos, Oba Riliwanu Akiolu, on Thursday warned the state governor, Mr Babajide Sanwo-Olu, against taking hasty decisions, saying he should also beware of hypocrites lurking around him.

Oba Akiolu gave the warning at a meeting with between monarchs and Governor Sanwo-Olu, his deputy, Dr Obafemi Hamzat, and others at the State House, Ikeja, saying that many that would now throng his office with pieces of advice were hypocrites majorly concerned with what benefits them and not the general public.

The monarch, who stated that all those elected and given leadership positions must be respected by all including monarchs, in an interview with newsmen after the parley, said the visit was used to discuss germane issues on security and socio-economic development of the state.

According to him, the visit was also to felicitate with the governor on his success at the polls and bring greetings from the kingdoms the traditional rulers administer, promising that the traditional rulers and their chiefs would work with the governor to ensure that his administration records tremendous achievements especially as it concerns security.

The monarch, who spoke in Yoruba, also debunked claims that he was a puppet to some big wigs in the country, declaring: “I am a king.”

Akiolu, who noted that though the big wigs do not reject his advice and requests, further declared: “I fear no one except God and that is why I will always speak my mind, aside from speaking truth to power.”

The governor thanked the traditional rulers for coming, promising to foster a good working relationship with the traditional institutions for Lagos to be safe and remain the destination of choice for investors.
