Aidconnet advocates sustainable awareness to end SGBV in Bauchi

A Non-Governmental Organisation in Bauchi State Aid Connect for Development (AidConnect ) has called for sustained awareness creation towards ending sexual and gender-based violence in society.

Executive Director of the organisation, Abigail Hardo made the call during a walking rally to create awareness on the effect of SGBV on women and girls in the Wuntin Dada and Miri communities of Bauchi Local government area.

She said that the rally was to mark the close out of a 5 years project on GBV in the communities funded by Action Aid.

According to her, ” We have enlightened residents of these communities and adjoining communities on the effect of GBV and the need for them not to allow their wards to hawk in odd hours as a retentive measure”.

Abigail Hardo noted that AidConnect had to include traditional leaders, men, women and young girls in its campaign towards ending SGBV.

She added, ” Today, we are glad to say that the cases of GBV have greatly reduced in these communities and we are glad we have built the capacity of community structures to sustain the campaign “.

The walking rally took the organisation through the markets in the communities with the men leading urging residents to focus on the prevention of the occurrence of GBV.

Some of the traditional leaders who spoke, including Uba Mohammad and Musa Abubakar appreciated the role played by Aidconnect in creating awareness of the effect of SGBV in their communities.
