Affidavit touts are back!

Published by

AFTER weeks of huddling under trees, Ikeja High Court affidavit touts have finally found a resting place. The touts are back in the business of harassing passersby and motorists to get customers.

A broken down yellow bus in front of the pension gate now serves as shelter and a mobile office for the touts.

Following a report by Saturday Tribune, this set of people had been dislodged from the backyard of the Lagos chief judge, who was said to have been given a helping hand by the leadership of the Area F Police Command to end years of reign of the affidavit touts in the vicinity.

For weeks, there was relative peace and calmness along the Ikeja High Court road due to the said combined efforts but any glass clinging over the feat may be too early – the ‘indomitable’ touts are back.

Lagosians are, indeed, a rare breed. Nearly everyone who could pull something off is a law unto himself and such a way of life seems to have become acceptable to all.

A source told Eko Akete that there was little the authorities could do to successfully get rid of the touts.

“They are a strong force here. They have a grounded association that has spanned more than 30 years, if not more. Many have built houses and even sent their children abroad doing this business. You can’t just come and start barking orders. It takes more than that. Besides, some even do legitimate business by standing in as middlemen when it comes to getting relevant documents and other legal documents,” the source said.
