As fuel scarcity continues to bite hard in most parts of the country, occasioned by the proliferation of adulterated petroleum products in circulation, Marketers, on Tuesday, said the source of the substandard products can best be explained by the sole importer, Nigerian National Petroleum Company (NNPC).
They stated that whatever is sold to them by the importer is what is stocked in the depot and eventually sold out.
Speaking with Tribune Online, the Spokesperson of the Independent Petroleum Marketers Association of Nigeria (IPMAN), Mr Chinedu Uwadike, said marketers had raised concerns over the quality of products being distributed especially in the South-South, South-East and western zone.
According to him, “We independent marketers are garbage in garbage out if you go to our inland and private depots whatever they give to us is what we sell and whatever we get there is what we sell.
“Our marketers complained about the quality of Petroleum products being distributed through PVOs.”

He wondered why the sole importer, NNPC, has kept mute over the development saying it was the Company’s responsibility to clarify the source of the product.
“There is no other agency supplying Petroleum products in this country except NNPC if the products we are complaining about are not from NNPC, they should by now have owned up or come out to say that the product in circulation is not theirs,” he said.
However, he disclosed that the Association’s National President, Alhaji Debo Ahmed, was working to ensure that the adulterated products are returned to the tank farms.”
Our national president is on it to ensure that some of these products in our depots are returned back to those tanks and they will remove it and ensure that PMS with DPR specifications is sold,” he added.
Meanwhile, repeated efforts to reach the NNPC’s Spokesperson, Mr Garba Deen Muhammad, failed as his line was switched off as of the time of filing this report.
