Movement and activities in Imo State were on Friday brought to a halt following the resumed trial of the leader of Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), Mazi Nnamdi Kanu.
Already, markets, shops, schools, banks, and filling stations are all closed for business.
In compliance with the “sit-at-home order” by IPOB, this was visible in all the 27 Local Government Areas of Imo State with the council’s headquarters completely deserted by workers.
In Owerri, the state capital, roads/streets and the usually boisterous highbrow axis of Ikenegbu, Aladinma, works layout, Prefab, world Bank and the Area “H”, all wore the ugly picture of a conquered territory.
It was the same situation at Owerri/ Onitsha road, Owerri/Port Harcourt road, Okigwe road, Aba road amongst others.
The few Okada riders who were sighted on some of the roads capitalized on the worrisome situation and hiked their fares.
Our correspondent who monitored the situation sighted armed mobile policemen in their vehicles at strategic junctions adjacent to the Government House roundabout, bank road and the Nigerian Correctional Centres just as they incessantly patrolled the empty roads.
At the time of filing this report, all motor parks in Owerri were converted into football fields by the youths who freely played balls in them.
Again frustrated residents of the city especially those on essential services were seen trekking long distances to get to their destinations.
