ACCI targets law mandating MSMEs to be members of Chambers of Industry

Published by

Abuja Chamber of Commerce and Industry (ACCI) is targeting a legislative enactment of an Act that would make it mandatory for businesses in Nigeria to be members of the Chambers of Commerce and Industry.

In Nigeria, mainly, there are two recognized Chambers of Commerce and Industry, the Lagos Chambers of Commerce and Industry (LCCI) and the Abuja Chambers of Commerce and Industry (ACCI).

Speaking to the Media in Abuja, on Wednesday, the Incoming President of ACCI, Dr Al-Mujtaba Abubakar said ACCI was read to bear the responsibility of a national body coordinating Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs) for capacity building.

He solicited the Federal government to carry Chambers of Commerce and Industry along in policy formulation in order to attend a wider coverage of MSMEs in the country progressively.

“We should do something similar to countries like Jordan and Germany where every business must be a member of the Chambers of Industry, we should try to do so.

“Enacting a law in Nigeria is not a small thing, though we can try to do it, it may take some time but it is achievable,” he stated.

Dr Al-Mujtaba Abubakar is the current Managing Director of Apt Pensions, the third Largest pension group in Nigeria.

He will be inaugurated, on Thursday (25 March 2021), as the President of Abuja Chambers of Commerce and Industry for a tenure of three years.
