Abia State chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC) has said that Governor Okezie Ikpeazu is still in the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).
This was as the party begins the process of the ward congress in the state.
Receiving the party nomination forms in Umuahia from the Obinna Ugama-led delegates from APC national office, Abuja, the APC state party Chairman, Donatus Nwankpa, noted that “If Governor Ikpeazu wants to join the party, we will know but for now, he is still in PDP.”
“Abia State APC does not work on rumour and that’s why the man they have as their chairman is an educated person, that is why if you watch, I hardly issue some sensational statement to entertain the people. People are entertaining themselves in the field.
“If the governor of the state feels like joining the party, then when we get to the bridge, we know how to cross it. For now, he is a member of PDP and we want him to remain there,” Nwankpa said.
According to him, the problem of Abia State is not over the governor coming from a particular place, but the quality and capability of the person, adding “APC wants a governor that will carry out the mission and vision of the state.”
Nwankpa assured that nobody would be discriminated against in the course of buying the forms, adding “also, there is no automatic ticket and nobody will be victimised.”
He reiterated that any duly registered member with proven character, “who is also a registered voter is eligible to buy forms and contest,” just as he acknowledged the circulation of fake forms in the state while stating that any forms not signed and authenticated by him on the state is not genuine.
He disclosed that the congress that would be held at the ward level would come up on the 31st of July, 2021 while the cost of the form would be at N10,000.00 each.
He used the opportunity to announce that more PDP members had joined APC in the state, naming them to include a former House of Representatives for Aba North and South Federal Constituency, Uzo Azubuike and Chris Nkwonta, former Ukwa East and West representative at the National Assembly.
Nwankpa said more people were expected into the party as part of the change the party stands for and called on the South East to avail itself of the national politics to progress.
