Abductors of Islamiyya school students have released six minors ― NSEMA boss

Director-General, Niger State Emergency Management Agency (NSEMA), Alhaji Ahmed Ibrahim Inga, has confirmed the abduction of an unspecified number of Islamiya schoolchildren and teachers by armed bandits in Tegina community of Rafi Local Government Area of the state.

The bandits, according to him, struck at the premises of the Islamic school said to belonged to the immediate past Emir of Kagara, late Alhaji Tanko Salihu between 4:00 pm and 4:35 pm on Sunday.

Tribune Online had earlier reported that 200 students were kidnapped in the school. The NSEMA boss who confirmed the abduction to the Tribune Online in a telephone interview on Sunday evening said the bandits have released six of the victims.

Inga said the minors couldn’t keep up the pace of the fleeing bandits, adding that they were picked up by their parents along the bush path where a search party was dispatched.

Inga disclosed further that the Niger State Government in conjunction with NSEMA had commenced the profiling of the abducted Islamiya school children and their teachers with the view to ascertain the number of those left in the custody of the bandits.

He, however, denied knowledge of attack by the bandits on any Police Division around Tegina, in Rafi Local Government Area of the state.
