52-year-old man dies as building collapses in llorin

A 52-year-old electronics artisan, Alhaji Taiye-Hassan Beki, has reportedly died when part of his building collapsed during a rainfall accompanied by a storm in llorin, the state capital on Tuesday.

The Nigerian Tribune gathered that the heavy rain, which started about 1:30 am also destroyed many properties in the metropolis.

It was also gathered that the victim, a father of four children, was urinating at the back of his building during the heavy rainstorm when some parts of his mud building suddenly fell on him.

The incident reportedly happened at the Beki family compound, Alanamu area in the llorin West local government area of the state.

Residents of the community told journalists that the victim was trapped under the collapsed structure for several minutes and was later removed by some sympathizers who were mostly Beki family members.

It was gathered that the victim, who sustained injuries and lost consciousness as the building fell on him, was immediately rushed to the University of Ilorin Teaching Hospital (UITH) on Tuesday where he died while receiving treatment.

The victim was buried at the Muslim cemetery, llorin after a Janazah prayer led by Sheikh Suleiman Beki and attended by relations.

The Magaji Beki compound, Alhaji Yahaya Olowo-Beki, while speaking on the incident, described it as an act of God.

The Magaji prayed to God to put an end to such misfortune among Beki family, forgive sons left by the deceased and give Beki family the fortitude to bear the loss.
