27-year-old Abideen to represent Nigeria at UN Corruption Summit

The Executive Director of Brain Builders Youth Development Initiative (BBYDI), Abideen Olasupo, has been listed among youth activists to feature in a virtual Youth Forum of the United Nations Special Session of the General Assembly (UNGASS) on challenges and measures to prevent and combat corruption and strengthen international co-operation.

Olasupo will be joining Chioma Ogbonna ‘CILL  SOUL’, a Musician and Fair  Play Winner 2020, also representing Nigeria at the event.

On 17 December 2018, the General Assembly adopted resolution 73/191 entitled “Special session of the General Assembly against corruption”, in which it decided to convene in the first half of 2021 a special session on challenges and measures to prevent and combat corruption and strengthen international cooperation.

In that resolution, the Assembly also decided that, at that special session, it shall adopt a concise and action-oriented political declaration, agreed upon in advance by consensus through intergovernmental negotiations under the auspices of the Conference of the States Parties to the United Nations Convention against Corruption.

The initiative, organised by the United Nations will be hoping to adopt a concise and action-oriented political declaration intended to bring youth activists together to call for support in achieving a corruption-free environment.

Other ambassadors of the initiative are from the US, Mexico, Philippines, UK, Lebanon, Kenya, Ghana, France, India, Cameroon and Barbados, Colombia, Pakistan, Zimbabwe.

The United Nations Special Session of the General Assembly (UNGASS) against Corruption Youth Forum will hold virtually between Monday 24 Wednesday 26 May 2021.

The Nigerian representative, Olasupo Abideen who is a local and international multiple award-winning advocates, is known for his engagement and advocacy in youth development, anti-corruption, transparency and accountability, good governance, education, climate action and social research.

With over eight years of experience advocating for social change, the entrepreneur has influenced policy-making and good governance through the works of his organisation.

He is also one of the ten goalkeeper steering committee members working worth CIVICUS and Bill and Melinda Gate Foundation to give over $870,000 grant to start up with SDGs target.

Earlier last year, he was selected as the only Nigerian member of the Global Sustainable Development Goals youth power panel.

Olasupo’s organisation also has a community of volunteers and ambassadors across tertiary institutions and thirty-six state of the federation

BBI has also translated the SDGs into major local languages in Nigeria and Arabic, for which it won the “Digital Leaders Award for Not-for-profit Organization of the Year” in 2019.
