A chieftain of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Ogun State, Hon Kayode Amusan, has distanced himself from a media report where some stakeholders of the party purportedly endorsed his candidacy for the 2027 governorship race in the state.
The former two-term federal lawmaker who represented Abeokuta North/Obafemi-Owode/Odeda federal constituency between 2003 and 2011 disclosed this in a statement sent to journalists on Saturday.
He described the media report as misleading and one that does not represent his conviction as a politician.
The statement partly reads “Our attention has been drawn to a recent misleading report in a section of the media and social media platforms with a headline ‘Ogun APC Stakeholders Opt for Amusan’s Candidacy’.
“The writer erroneously and unknowingly must have misrepresented the facts and content of a media parley in Abeokuta which does not emanate through the media office of Hon. Jelili Kayode Amusan.
“This error of judgement does not speak for our political organization. We categorically state that these claims are untrue and we urge the public to disregard them in their entirety.”
Amusan disclaimed the publication, saying that the claims in it were most probably aimed at discrediting our principal.
“Amusan remains a law-abiding citizen who strongly believes in the will of Almighty Allah and always works in tandem with the ethos and principles of the All Progressives Congress (APC), and supremacy of the party’s decisions is dear to his heart,” he added.
