2023: Fayemi’s wife advocates for more women in NASS

Published by

The wife of the Ekiti State governor, Mrs Bisi Fayemi has called on political parties to give more positions to women especially in the National Assembly as they prepare for the primary elections ahead of the 2023 general elections.

Just as the people of Ijero/Ekiti West/Efon federal constituency of Ekiti endorsed the lawmaker representing the constituency in the House of Representatives, Honourable Omowumi Ogunlola for a second term.

The constituents comprising traditional rulers, youths, market women, elders and artisans endorsed Ogunlola for re-election at the weekend in Ijero during the third edition of her empowerment programmes.

Some of the items donated included an ICT Center to Ijero Comprehensive High School, a Comprehensive Health Center in Ejiyan-Ekiti, nine vehicles, five tricycles, 60 motorbikes, 100 sewing machines, 110 generating sets and 40 deep freezers.

Others were 15 wheelchairs, 47 grinding machines, 15 vulcanizing machines, 100 barbing kits, 6 rice processing machines, 5 cassava processing machines and cash gifts to hundreds of traders, widows and students.

Speaking after commissioning the health centre in her name, the governor’s wife while commending the lawmaker for her quality and responsible representation to the people, saying her gesture confirmed the need for more women in positions of authority in the country.

According to her, “I must appreciate her for being a worthy ambassador of the women folks in political positions. Indeed, you have done well and I am very proud of you. We will keep saying we want women in positions of leadership, Hon Ogunlola is a perfect example of what we mean.

“Thank you very well for not disappointing me. With her sterling performance, more opportunities will be opened for women. I will like to call on other members of the green chamber for them to do more for their people because Ogunlola has been a fantastic representative of the people.”

Speaking on behalf of all traditional rulers, the Owa Ajero of Ijero-Ekiti, Oba Joseph Adewole, said Ogunlola deserves another term on account of her sterling and unprecedented achievements.

He noted that the traditional rulers were rooting for her re-election into the green chamber for continuity because she has changed the face of representation in the federal constituency with masses savouring the dividends of democracy.

“Evidence abounds for everybody to see that Omowumi’s tenure at the Green Chamber has completely witnessed a departure from stereotypical experience, acute neglect and poor representation of the people have had with their erstwhile representatives.

“So, without any equivocation, Omowumi has performed creditably well and such a great performer deserves a second term for a more purposeful representation of her constituents who are unanimous that her good work must continue,” he said.

The APC State Chairman, Paul Omotoso expressed pride in the quality of effective representation she has been offering her constituents, adding that these could be attested to through the implementation of people-centric programmes.

Omotoso, represented by the financial secretary, Bamidele Fatile said Ogunlola, beyond fulfilling his statutory expectation as a lawmaker, has put enduring smiles on the faces of constituents regardless of their political affinities through the enactment of people-centric policies, modern skill-acquisition training and empowerment schemes.

In her remark, Ogunlola said that he was committed to enhancing the well-being of members of his constituency, promising to facilitate more developmental projects that will have direct impacts on the lives of the people.

She called on constituents to reaffirm their various supports for the Governor Kayode Fayemi-led government and also vote for the APC in the July 18 governorship in the state to provide more dividends.
