2023: Akeredolu’s wife joins senatorial race in Imo

The Ondo first lady, Mrs Betty Anyanwu-Akeredolu has declared her intention to contest for the senatorial position in Imo East federal constituency in the 2023 general election in the country.

The aspirant also addressed as ‘Ada Owere’ in an interaction with the Correspondent Chapel of NUJ, Imo State Council, in Owerri Friday said that she joined the race to change the narratives if given the opportunities to represent the senatorial constituency.

The wife of the Governor lampooned successive governments in Imo State over what she described as total neglect of her community Emeabiam in Owerri West Local Government Area, Imo State and other communities within the area.

Mrs Akeriodolu regretted that her community Emeabiam and other neighbouring communities such as Iheagwa, Nekede, Eziobodo all in Owerri West LGA has now turned to be a margenalized place without government presence.

The first lady decried the absence of schools, roads, medical health facilities and healthy environment in the community and others, adding that as a daughter of the area who is rooted in the community.

According to her she has decided to take up the conversation to the point of success.

The first lady said that in Ondo State, today, every political wards has two health centres and wondered why such situations is not what is obtainable in Imo State.

She said: “I have been marrying for 42ys, married in 1980 and I have deep interest in what is happening in my community with a view of finding the solution and that informed my decision to start the conversation.”

She described a situation where some would have complications and they don’t have assessability to medical service at a nearby areas considering the bad nature of roads in the area.

She said: “The whole place of Emeabiam, Nekede, Ihiagwa Eziobody is dysfunctional, a place for refused dumps.”

While describing her project as a wake up call, the aspirant said that the conversation should be a toch light to leadership which according to her is not gender specific but neutral.

She said that she earned herself the title as of ‘Ada Owere’ based on her impact made on the lives of the people and communities.
