MINISTER of State for Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Dr Ramatu Tijjani Aliyu
The Minister of State for Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Dr Ramatu Tijjani Aliyu, on Monday, inaugurated a five-man ministerial committee to determine modalities for the procurement of fertilizers and other agricultural inputs for the 2021 farming season.
According to a statement by her Special Assistant on media, Mr Austine Elemue, and made available to newsmen in Abuja, the minister urged the committee members to ensure that they deliver on the assignment within two weeks, stressing that time is of the essence.
Dr Aliyu, who was represented by her Senior Special Assistant (SSA) on Administration, Professor Muhammad Usman, further advised them to come up with ideas that would assist the FCT administration to define ways of supporting farmers to improve productivity.
The terms of reference of the committee according to her, is to determine the modalities for the timely purchase and distribution of fertilizer and non-fertilizer inputs for the 2021 farming season and to review the farming activities of groups and corporate entities in the FCT and define ways of supporting them to improve productivity.
Others include reviewing the farming calendar in the FCT and make recommendations for optimizing food production and to examine any other matters relevant to the exercise of this mandate and make recommendations as appropriate.
She also stressed that the committee is at liberty to extend its scope with a view to achieving the set goals and objectives.
Responding on behalf of other members, the Chairman, Ministerial Committee and Special Assistant to FCT Minister of State on Special Duties, Malam Abubakar Ibrahim, thanked the minister for the confidence reposed on them, just as he pledged the commitment of the committee to deliver on the assigned mandates.
