The president of Osun Baptist Conference,  Reverend (Dr) Paul Kolawale, on Friday, in Osogbo, Osun State tasked Christians on the need for active participation in politics, saying it would help create opportunities to make positive difference in governance.

He said Christians should no longer sit on the fence in the running of government at all tiers, contending that their active participation was necessary to economic growth.

Kolawole, who spoke during a press in Osogbo to kick-start the celebration of the 25th anniversary of the Osun Baptist conference, said the theme of the weeklong celebration was Moving Forward: Celebrating God’s Goodness Through Praise and Pragmatic Political Participation, emphasised the need to make positive impacts in proferring solutions to challenges, confronting Nigeria.

“From our national level,  we want to emphasise active participation of our members in politics. The lecture on active participation in politics would be delivered  during the 26th session of our 25th anniversary, which  would dwell on the need for Christians to participate in politics.. We are going to invite eminent members of Nigeria Baptist Society,” he said.

On the seeming lack of coordination in the Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN), Kolawole averred that “we are facing a lot of challenges in our society. There is a kind of synthesis of compromise of ideas. Some members have been bought over and the tendency to tell the truth is not there.”

“But, in Baptist, we have respect for the leadership. We don’t sell ourselves out or allow ourselves to be be bought over. Even, we have always told politicians about the need for people oriented manifesto. We don’t take give in to monetary influence from politicians or parties”, Kolawole remarked.
